FROM LABOURER TO SUPERINTENDENT

Mitchell Prince – Superintendent of Water Services

Mitchell Prince – Superintendent of Water Services at GS Construction

‘What was intended to be a temporary position soon turned into something much more’

With over half a century in the underground infrastructure industry, GS Construction has been fortunate to have Team members who have devoted not merely years, but decades working with us. Their stories are not just tales of loyalty and dedication, but narratives of professional and personal growth, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to their craft.

Today we invite you to step behind the scenes and meet the people who have stood behind our projects and every milestone we’ve achieved. There are remarkable people whose stories deserve to be told.

We begin by sharing the story of Mitchell Prince, our Superintendent of Water Services, whose journey with GS is as impressive as the impact one can have over the course of a career.

Mitchell joined our Team straight out of high school at the age of 18, having an experience from summer jobs in the oilfield and fishing industry.

"When I first joined GS, it was intended to be a summer job," Mitchell recalls. "I had been accepted into a post-secondary program that had nothing to do with Water and Sewer, which I planned to start in September.

Starting from the bottom, I gradually worked my way up. I spent one season as a Labourer, one season in the ditch as a Pipelayer's Helper, two seasons operating skid steers and excavators, one season as a Topman/Lead Hand, four seasons as a Foreman, and three seasons as a Superintendent of Water Services which is my current role at the company.

I didn't initially plan on a career at GS or in the industry. However, after a few months of working there and getting to know the people and the history of GS, I felt like I was part of something bigger. I often called my grandfather to share my experiences, and he always told me to look after the people around me, and they would look after me.

In August 2013, when the college called to confirm my spot for the upcoming semester, I was painting a door with my uncle. Something came over me, and I decided not to attend college that season. Two years later, I packed everything I had in Newfoundland and moved to Alberta permanently.

I love the challenges that come with the job every day. No day is the same. Things are always changing. Adapting to these changes and challenges for the best possible outcome is very rewarding. I enjoy managing people and dealing with various conditions, environments, and issues while maintaining our standards to show that no matter the place or the job we still provide the same quality."

Mitchell Prince's story is remarkable, filled with life-changing decisions that have shaped him into the person he is today, and we are grateful to have Mitchell on our Team!
