Role Summary 

The Lead Mechanic plays a vital role in ensuring the peak performance of heavy equipment used in our underground water and sewer projects. From performing critical repairs and preventative maintenance to diagnosing complex mechanical issues, this role is essential for keeping operations running smoothly. In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, and other machinery used in our underground water and sewer projects.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic systems, engines, and electrical components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Order parts, supplies, and tools necessary for repairs and ensure inventory levels are maintained.
  • Collaborate with project managers and superintendents to prioritize repair needs and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Supervise and train junior mechanics or apprentices as required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all repair and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment repairs, service schedules, and parts inventory.
  • Work with external vendors for warranty repairs and specialized services.

 

Qualifications 

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic or proven track record in off-road equipment maintenance and repair.
  • 10+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in the civil or construction industries.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic software and tools.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and protocols in heavy equipment operations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other teams.
