Lowe Avenue Neighbourhood Rehabilitation (2022)
- Location Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta
- Description
GS Construction was the general contractor on this neighbourhood renewal project set on Lowe Avenue in Fort Saskatchewan, responsible for replacing 240 lineal meters of 200mm sanitary sewer main, 315 lineal meters of 150mm to 250mm watermain, and the installation of 290 lineal meters of 450mm to 600mm storm sewer main. GS also performed full replacement of 13 residential lot services, half of which were installed trenchlessly to avoid damage to mature trees in the neighbourhood. Full surface restoration including the removal and replacement of 540 lineal meters of curb and gutter, 705 lineal meters of concrete separate walk, and 3,075m2 of asphalt was performed by subcontractors to GS. In order to maintain access to residences in this area throughout construction, the project was split into two phases to allow for underground work, removals and surface restoration to be completed on the first half of the project before beginning work on the second half. This phased methodology required extensive communication with the public to keep them informed on where and when specific road closures would occur to minimize disruption to residents in the neighbourhood. The year after this project, GS Construction was awarded the next contract to pick up where we left off with the renewal program on Lowe Avenue and had another successful year working in the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
